Boudoir is about confidence, not just pretty pictures.
Sure- you walk away with breathtaking, timeless photography of yourself to look back for years and years to come. You can sit down with your granddaughter fifty years from now and show them what a knock-out their grammy was, but there’s so much more to it.
Before Boudoir
Before tackling my passion in boudoir photography, I excelled in the wedding industry. Sure, it was fun and I loved documenting people’s love stories, but it was always a hurried occupation. I was always running from place to place to document happy faces and timeless moments that are guaranteed to happen on any wedding day, but the bride was always frazzled and everything was rushed so sometimes those moments or happy faces were forced.
I still loved capturing weddings, especially the details and the photos of the bride and groom, but it wasn’t until one of my brides asked me to document her in her bridal lingerie that I found my TRUE calling. About a month or so prior to Ms. K’s wedding, she called me up shyly and asked me to capture these intimate photos. She wanted to be able to look back and remember what she looked like as a bride and before she had kids while also surprising her groom with a sexy little gift.
At the time, I didn’t know what boudoir was but I definitely thought it sounded fun so I happily accepted.
Because it was an entirely new concept for me, I was nervous, but it was so wonderful to create this beautiful art of my bride before her wedding. It wasn’t rushed and was at a pace that we could just make timeless photographs of her. I get it. Corny, right? But that’s how my brain thought of it.
My First Shoot
When we began the shoot, she was very guarded. I had photographed Ms. K for her engagement session, so I knew that she was a little on the timid side and didn’t have much confidence in herself, so I expected this.
I could tell she was trying to come out of her shell but it was hard. Exposing yourself to another is difficult, so it’s totally understandable.
But as the minutes passed, Ms. K slowly started to unwind and have fun. I could see a different side of her coming out from behind her eyes. A happy and carefree side. I showed her some of the images on my camera and confidence began to radiate from her. Her wall came down.
Why I Shoot Boudoir
It was the transition that I witnessed in Ms. K that made me fall in love with boudoir. I adore creating the beautiful photos of my clients, but it’s so much more than that. It’s witnessing my clients fall in love with themselves and to see a shy and timid girl become a strong woman that simply shines with confidence.
“Nothing is more beautiful than a confident woman.” I happen to know that to be 100% true.

Special thanks to Ms. K for allowing me to share her story. The photos on this post are not Ms. K. She prefers her photos only to be for herself and her husband.
