I thought I would take a little time at the start of 2022 to talk about self-care. Babes, you know me – I am ALL about it. So, let’s talk about ways to practice de-stressing as a working mom.
Life as a Working Momma | EB Boudoir
The world of wellness tells us that we must always practice some form of self-care. And I agree, however not everything is tailor-made for the working mom, of course.
I certainly appreciate more practical advice versus something abstract. Like, meditate 30 minutes a day. I understand the sentiment, yes meditation is a wonderful tool for stress management, but perhaps we can talk about the application? The when and the how seems to be on every mother’s lips.
Most invitations that involve my schedule are met with “Yes, I would love to do that, but I need to pick up my child from school at that time, etc.”.
It seems our schedules and time are not our own, as they once were, and now others’ needs are before us. What’s integral is a balance that we make time for ourselves for our own personal, spiritual, and mental health. The best way to emphasize this is from my own experiences so far.
There has been a lot of trial and error and days when I could not be bothered. I am blessed to have put in the work over the past two years; showing up for me every day is now a habit. To be honest, committed, and specific with my time, if it’s just a little a day.
So, mom to mom and working gal to working gal, here are 3 ways to practice de-stressing as a working mom in your day-to-day.
3 Ways to Practice De-Stressing
wake up a bit before the kid[s]
I know sleep is precious but go and make your hot matcha, tea, or coffee and enjoy the stillness of the morning—the quiet before the storm. Before everyone else’s day becomes your own, sip your morning cafe and get YOU ready. That way, you can focus on the little one[s] and not feel stressed trying to paint on that eyeliner when your crazy kiddo with her shirt stuck over her head comes looking for you—real-life scenario people.
make time for YOU time.
After the storm has lifted and everyone else’s agenda is in motion now, it’s time for you. This could be you going for a walk, a solid 30 minutes of quiet reading time, a long hot pampering shower, or going to the gym. Heck, even throw on a free youtube yoga or hit cardio (sorry, not sorry, get moving girl!) video and get a little sweat on. You don’t need much. Just start, even if it’s 10 min and day, and build on that.
Trade this YOU time with your partner as well! Make sure you have time to yourself and support one another in your endeavors. Teamwork makes the dream work, which has been a game-changer for my partner and me.
be sure that you don’t start again until the next day when work is done.
Keep work and family separate and relish your time with family. No more looking at your work emails when you’re off the clock, babe. I can’t emphasize this enough as a female entrepreneur. Setting clear boundaries with yourself around work-life balance and your digital spaces is the best self-care you can give yourself. Ultimately your life can be ‘busy,’ or it can be purposeful. Once I distinguished the two, I started to look at my life differently and live more intentionally.
I am a practitioner and advocate for all women’s discovery of a Strong. Beautiful. You.
To do that, I consistently take time for my self-discovery and mastery. To lead with confidence doesn’t mean you always have it but a part of ourselves that we can recognize, remember and tap into when called upon.
My work in Boudoir is a crafted and intentional experience designed to build a woman’s confidence in herself to embrace her true femininity.
I balance my life to serve that very purpose and live by example.
As always, I love to hear from my badass boudoir babes. Send me a note on how you destress, and if you are up for it and ready to leap into this year by scheduling in your own EB Boudoir experience, I’m your girl. You can also join our badass VIP Fb Group for all the self-love!
